Abstract

Pregnancy complicated with both overt and gestational diabetes mellitus is well-established risk factor for increasing perinatal and neonatal problems such as fetal malformation as well as maternal complications. It was found that the risk of perinatal mortality is not increased compared to controls but the risk of macrosomia is significantly increased. Other perinatal problems include birth injuries, such as bone fractures and shoulder dystocia, bell's palsies, and hypoglycemia.
