Abstract

The quality assessment of simultaneous interpreting has traditionally focused on linguistic accuracy and semantic equivalence. However, contemporary translation studies emphasize the importance of pragmatic factors in determining the effectiveness of interpreted communication. This article examines the concept of pragmatic evaluation in simultaneous interpreting and explores the criteria used to assess interpreters’ ability to preserve communicative intentions, contextual meanings, and socio-cultural implications during real-time translation. The study employs a qualitative analysis of existing theoretical frameworks and empirical findings in interpreting studies. The results demonstrate that pragmatic competence significantly influences the overall quality of simultaneous interpreting and contributes to successful intercultural communication. The article proposes a multidimensional model of pragmatic evaluation that incorporates contextual appropriateness, speaker intention preservation, audience adaptation, and discourse coherence. The findings have important implications for interpreter training, professional assessment, and future research in translation studies.
